How It Works
Purchasing beef in bulk is a great way to fill your freezer with locally raised beef while knowing exactly where your food comes from.
At Lazy H Farms, we offer whole, half, and quarter beef shares throughout the year based on availability.
Step 1: Reserve Your Beef
Choose a whole, half, or quarter beef and place a deposit through our Shop page.
Your deposit secures your place in our processing schedule and is applied toward your final balance.
Upon reserving a beef, we will keep you updated on estimated timing for your finished beef to ensure the proper planning can take place.
Step 2: We Schedule Processing
Once your animal is scheduled for processing, we’ll contact you with details and timing.
When purchasing a bulk beef, you’ll typically have the opportunity to provide cutting instructions directly to the butcher but we are always happy to walk customers through this process and answer any questions.
We understand this can be an intimidating piece of the process, let us help share information or answer any questions to make it less stressful!
Step 3: Final Pricing
Final pricing is based on the actual hanging weight of the animal, which is the weight of the animal after harvest and before processing. We charge $6 per pound on the hanging weight.
Because every animal is different, total weight and final cost will vary slightly.
Once processing is complete, we will provide the actual hanging weight and final total.
Processing fees are paid directly to the butcher and may vary depending on your cutting preferences.
Step 4: Pick Up Your Beef
Your beef will be professionally processed, packaged, labeled, and frozen for convenient storage by a USDA inspected facility.
You’ll have the option to pick up your order directly from the butcher when processing is complete or work directly with us to schedule a time for us to deliver the beef to your home at an additional fee.
Final Pricing (Example)
If a half beef has a hanging weight of 300 pounds:
300 lbs x $6.00 = $1,800 due to Lazy H Farms
Your deposit would be applied toward that total, and processing fees would be paid separately to the butcher. Processing fees are generally around $1.10 per pound on hanging weight.
For reference, we aim for a finished weight of 900 - 1,000 pounds for our steers which generally results in a final hanging weight of 570-620 pounds.
